Gambian forward Ebrima Singhateh denied transfer as MFK Karvina blocks Beerschot move
Gambian striker Ebrima Singhateh has been denied a transfer to Belgium after his club, MFK Karvina, refused to sanction a move to Beerschot despite advanced negotiations.
The Belgian second division side had submitted an offer worth €350,000 for the 20-year-old, which also included a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
Initial talks suggested that an agreement between the clubs was within reach. However, Karvina’s management reversed their position late in the process, opting to keep the forward rather than allow him to leave.
A collapsed deal
Beerschot had identified Singhateh as a key target for the final weeks of the transfer window, with the Gambian international eager to make the switch.
The financial package proposed by the Belgian outfit was seen as both reasonable and beneficial for Karvina, while the inclusion of a future resale percentage promised potential longer-term gains.
Yet after internal discussions, the Czech club’s leadership decided against finalising the transfer. Their reasoning, according to local sources, was the inability to secure a suitable replacement in time before the deadline.
As a result, Singhateh was informed that he would remain with Karvina for the coming campaign.
Player frustration
The decision is understood to have left Singhateh deeply disappointed. Having been keen on the move to Belgium, where he would have joined a club with ambitions of securing promotion to the top flight, the Gambian international reportedly expressed his frustration at being denied the opportunity. Despite his protests, Karvina’s hierarchy made clear that their stance was final.
For Singhateh, who has been seeking a step forward in his career after establishing himself in the Czech league, the failed transfer represents a significant setback.
Beerschot had been viewed as an ideal environment for the striker to further his development while gaining greater exposure on a competitive European stage.
Karvina’s priorities
For Karvina, the decision highlights the precarious balance many clubs face between financial opportunity and sporting necessity.
Losing Singhateh without a reliable replacement could have left them short in attack, potentially compromising their ambitions for the season.
While the rejected offer may seem costly in the short term, the Czech club’s management have prioritised stability on the pitch over immediate financial gain.
Retaining Singhateh means they will continue to rely on his pace and finishing ability as they look to strengthen their domestic campaign.
What next for Singhateh?
Attention now shifts to how Singhateh responds on the pitch following the collapse of the deal. With the transfer window closed, the Gambian international has little choice but to focus on Karvina and deliver performances that justify the club’s decision to keep him.
His challenge will be to channel the disappointment of a blocked move into strong displays that maintain his value ahead of future windows. Should he continue to perform, interest from clubs such as Beerschot is likely to resurface.
For now, however, Singhateh remains a Karvina player, with the Czech side determined to benefit from his services for at least another season.
