Gambia has secured a place in the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after overcoming Niger with a commanding aggregate win.

The Gambian side sealed their progress with a 2-1 victory in the return leg on home soil on Monday, February 24, 2025, bringing the overall score to 4-1 across both matches.

Having already established control with a 2-0 triumph in the first leg in Niamey, the Gambians capitalized on their advantage in front of their home supporters.

Goals from Mbarsey Daboe and Fatou Kanteh ensured their place in the next round, where they will face the winner of the Kenya-Tunisia tie.

Gambia’s performance in the opening match set the stage for their success, displaying a solid defensive setup and an efficient attacking strategy.

In the return fixture, the team remained composed despite facing a determined Nigerien side eager to overturn the deficit.

Their ability to maintain focus and execute their game plan reflects the steady progress of Gambian women’s football on the continental stage.

The victory underscores the team’s growing ambition as they continue to build momentum in pursuit of qualification for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco.

With a disciplined tactical approach and a determined squad, Gambia will now prepare for what promises to be a tougher challenge in the second round.
