Emmanuel Eboue expressed his disappointment at being summoned before the disciplinary committee of the Turkish Federation for paying tribute to Nelson Mandela in a Turkish championship match. Along with his teammate Didier Drogba, Eboué wore a t-shirt with a tribute message to Mandela. The Ivorian players wanted to honor the late leader and express solidarity with his family and the South African population. Eboué defended their actions, stating that as footballers, they don’t engage in politics and that their intention was to commemorate someone who did a lot for the African continent and Europe.
