Galatasaray show interest in Franco-Ivorian goalkeeper Guillaume Restes but make no formal bid

Galatasaray explored the possibility of signing Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes during the summer transfer window but never advanced beyond preliminary discussions.

The 20-year-old Franco-Ivorian shot-stopper was linked with several clubs following an impressive Ligue 1 campaign in which he made 29 appearances and recorded 10 clean sheets.

His consistency between the posts for Toulouse brought him to the attention of scouts across Europe, with Juventus among the foreign clubs monitoring his progress, while French sides Lille and Strasbourg also registered interest.

Galatasaray emerged as one of the latest names associated with the young goalkeeper, sparking speculation of a potential move to Istanbul. According to reports in L’Équipe, the Turkish giants contacted Toulouse officials to gather information about Restes’ contractual situation and availability. However, their approach stopped short of any official offer, and no negotiations took place.

The outcome leaves Restes’ immediate future unchanged. With the summer market now closed, the goalkeeper remains firmly tied to Toulouse, where he has been a product of the academy system and continues to develop as one of France’s brightest prospects in his position.

His contract with the club runs until June 2028, offering security for Toulouse and ensuring that any future move would likely require a significant transfer fee.

While the window did not bring about a transfer, Restes’ stock continues to rise. His reputation as a reliable last line of defence was enhanced last season, and he has already carried that form into the current campaign.

From his first four Ligue 1 outings this term, he has secured two clean sheets, underlining the steady progress that has caught the attention of Europe’s elite clubs.

For Galatasaray, their exploratory interest highlights the club’s determination to reinforce key areas of the squad as they pursue domestic success and aim for greater competitiveness in Europe.

Yet their decision not to formalise their admiration with a bid suggests that Restes remains a player for the future rather than an immediate acquisition.

From the player’s perspective, the speculation has done little to distract him from his responsibilities at Toulouse. At just 20, he has shown maturity well beyond his years, focusing on maintaining form rather than fuelling transfer rumours.

Those close to the situation suggest that he remains committed to progressing step by step, with ambitions to eventually test himself at a higher level when the right opportunity arises.

Restes currently earns an annual salary of €260,000 at Toulouse, a figure modest by top-flight European standards but reflective of his age and career stage. With long-term security in the form of his 2028 contract, both club and player can approach future transfer discussions from a position of strength.

The coming months will determine whether Galatasaray revive their interest when the next transfer window opens. For now, however, Restes’ focus remains firmly on Toulouse’s campaign, where his performances could further enhance his growing reputation.

The goalkeeper’s blend of youth, composure, and potential ensures that his name will remain one to watch in future windows, whether in Turkey, Italy, or beyond.
