Galatasaray have confirmed that Leroy Sane suffered a significant ankle injury during their Champions League clash against Manchester City, raising doubts over his availability for the next round.
The German winger started the match in Istanbul but was forced off in the 80th minute after going down in visible pain.
In an official medical update, the Turkish champions explained that Sane was examined at Acibadem Hospital after sustaining an ankle sprain. The tests revealed tears and bleeding in the lateral ligament and joint capsule of his right ankle, and the club stressed that treatment has already begun.
Despite the defeat to City, Galatasaray secured qualification for the Champions League play-offs with 10 points from the group stage. They will face Serie A giants Juventus in the next round, with the first leg scheduled for 17 February in Istanbul.
Whether Sane will recover in time for that tie remains unclear, and his progress will be closely monitored over the coming days and weeks. His absence would be a major blow to Galatasaray’s attacking plans at a crucial point in their European campaign.
