Galatasaray, the Istanbul club, displayed a large banner outside its stadium, Türk Telekom Arena, in tribute to Nelson Mandela. The banner reads, “Brotherhood of Colors: Your legacy is in our hearts.” This gesture comes ahead of a crucial match against Juventus Turin. It’s also a strong sign from the club amidst controversy after players Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Eboue were sanctioned for displaying t-shirts in tribute to Mandela during a Cup match. Drogba, unapologetic, stated he would do it again if given the chance, and received support from the Turkish Minister of Sports.
