Galatasaray agree €30m deal for Nigeria-eligible midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu
Galatasaray are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of highly rated midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Burnley F.C. after reaching an agreement with the Premier League club.
The Turkish giants have finalized terms with Burnley for the 22-year-old midfielder in a deal believed to be worth around €30 million, with the official announcement expected soon.
The move represents a major investment from the Turkish champions, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season as they prepare for domestic and European challenges.
Ugochukwu emerged as one of Burnley’s standout performers during the 2025/26 Premier League campaign despite the club’s difficult season, which ended with relegation to the Championship.
The midfielder featured prominently throughout the campaign, making 35 league appearances and showing maturity beyond his age. His performances included three goals and two assists, highlighting his ability to contribute both defensively and in attacking situations.
Known for his physical strength, composure on the ball and ability to cover large areas of the pitch, Ugochukwu has developed a reputation as one of the most promising young midfielders in European football.
His ability to break up play, carry the ball forward and provide balance in midfield has made him an attractive option for clubs looking for a modern box-to-box midfielder.
Despite Burnley’s relegation, Ugochukwu’s individual displays did not go unnoticed, with several clubs monitoring his situation. Galatasaray moved quickly to secure his signature and are believed to have beaten competition from other interested sides.
The transfer would also mark another important step in Ugochukwu’s career. The midfielder previously developed in France before moving to England, where he gained valuable experience competing in one of the world’s most demanding leagues.
The player remains eligible to represent Nigeria through his family background, making him a potential future option for the Super Eagles. However, he has not yet committed his international future to Nigeria and has represented France at youth level.
Galatasaray’s decision to invest heavily in the midfielder reflects their ambition to continue dominating Turkish football while making a stronger impact in European competitions.
The Istanbul giants believe Ugochukwu’s age, physical qualities and technical ability make him a long-term asset who can become a key figure in their midfield for years to come.
For Burnley, the reported €30 million fee would represent a significant financial return, especially following their relegation. The club will now have to decide how best to reinvest the funds as they prepare for life back in the Championship.
With the final details reportedly completed, attention now turns to the official unveiling of Ugochukwu as a Galatasaray player, where he will begin a new chapter in his promising career.
