GAÉTAN BONG: CAMEROONIAN DEFENDER ALREADY TAKES AIM AT NEW OM COACH
The appointment of Michel as the new head coach of Olympique de Marseille hasn’t pleased everyone—Gaétan Bong, in particular, has made his feelings known.
The Cameroonian defender, now playing for Brighton & Hove Albion, took to Twitter to share his disapproval of the Spanish coach, with whom he previously worked at Olympiacos. Their relationship was far from cordial, as Bong saw little playing time under Michel’s management in Greece.
“A mirror and some hair gel for Michel will be more important than Marseille’s victories,” Bong wrote sarcastically. He followed up with: “Courage to the Marseille players if Michel is appointed coach.”
These biting comments highlight the lingering tension between the two men, and suggest that Michel’s man-management style may not be universally appreciated by his former players.
OM supporters will be hoping Bong’s criticism proves unfounded as Michel begins his tenure in the wake of Marcelo Bielsa’s shock departure.
