Gabriel Jesus says Barcelona dream fulfilled as trophies matter more than goals

Gabriel Jesus says playing for Barcelona has fulfilled a lifelong ambition, but the forward insists winning trophies is more important than his individual scoring record.

Jesus was speaking after Barcelona strengthened their position at the top of La Liga with a 3-0 victory over Getafe at Camp Nou in the eighth round of the season.

“As I said previously, I have fulfilled my dream of playing for Barcelona, and I am trying to make the most of playing alongside this wonderful group of players,” Jesus told beIN Sports.

Barcelona produced another convincing performance to maintain their perfect start to the campaign. Anthony Gordon, Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde scored the goals as the Catalan side claimed their eighth victory in eight league matches.

The result took Barcelona to 24 points at the summit of La Liga. Getafe remain on eight points and are 13th in the table.

Jesus said Barcelona’s ability to create chances had given him plenty of opportunities to contribute in attack.

“I am currently playing for a team that creates many chances, and we want to take advantage of that and score as many goals as possible,” he added.

The Brazilian forward was replaced in the 82nd minute by Egyptian international Hamza Abdelkarim.

Jesus has scored three goals in six appearances for Barcelona in all competitions. All three have come from just three shots on target.

That gives him a 100% conversion rate from shots on target, the highest percentage among all La Liga players to have scored in the competition this season.

Despite having scored only three league goals, Jesus is second among Brazilian players for goals in La Liga this season. He trails Raphinha, who has scored 14 times.

However, Jesus made clear that personal statistics are not his main priority as Barcelona seek to maintain their unbeaten start and challenge for silverware.

“At the end of the season, we want to achieve many victories and win many trophies, because that is the most important thing,” he said.
