Gabriel Ameyi Released After Week-Long Detention in Lomé
Gabriel Ameyi, president of the Togolese Football Federation (FTF), has been released after spending a week in custody at the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) in Lomé. The arrest took place late last week upon his return from Malabo, where he had attended the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations draw.
Ameyi was reportedly implicated in a fraud case, and had been under investigation for several days. According to sources, a compromise was reached between the federation president and his accusers, which likely facilitated his release.
His absence led to the postponement of the FTF’s extraordinary congress, initially scheduled for December 6. With his release, the situation may now stabilize, allowing for the rescheduling of important federation activities.
This development brings temporary relief to Togolese football, which has recently been marked by internal tensions and administrative uncertainty.
