The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) has officially confirmed the sudden passing of international striker Aaron Boupendza, causing shockwaves in the world of sports.

He was 28 years old when he passed away in China following a fall from the 11th floor of his apartment block, while on duty with Zhejiang FC.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, FEGAFOOT was deeply saddened by the passing of one of Gabon’s most promising forwards.

“The Gabonese international has just passed away after a fall from the 11th floor of his apartment building in China where he played for Zhejiang FC,” the release stated.

Boupendza, who had been fashioned by CF Mounana of Gabon and then Bordeaux in France, rose through the ranks of professional football quite fast.

His breathtaking performances at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon left deep impressions on football fans and lovers globally.

“Boupendza is remembered as a phenomenal striker who left his mark as the AFCON was underway in Cameroon,” FEGAFOOT added.

He had just recently signed with the Chinese league after spells in Romania, Qatar, Turkey, and America.

“FEGAFOOT and the entire Gabonese football family present their deepest condolences to his family of origin during this difficult moment,” the release finished, expressing deepest sympathy to the family of Boupendza.

Boupendza will be remembered as a stubborn player, a proud ambassador of Gabonese football, and an emblem of determination and passion.

Amewou hoping to seize chance at Nimes after difficult season

Nimes midfielder Komlan Amewou is approaching the new Ligue 2 season with renewed optimism after a frustrating last campaign at the club. In an exclusive interview, the Togo international said he has a point to prove this term after struggling for game time under former coach Thierry Froger. “I feel good compared to last year when I played very little and the coach had very little confidence in me,” the 28-year-old told AfricaSoccer.com. “Today, I have all the cards in hand to prove my talent. It was up to me to show him and everyone else that I was better than that.” Amewou believes new manager Victor Zvunka, who returned

‘He embodies the type of player for our league’ – Saudi sports minister on Salah

Saudi Arabia’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, has hailed Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah as the ideal player for the Saudi Pro League (SPL), describing him as someone who “embodies everything we want” in the competition. The minister, who is a known admirer of the Egyptian star, praised Salah’s stature in the Arab and Muslim world and said he would be a perfect ambassador for the growing Saudi league. Salah, who has repeatedly been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, put an end to speculation earlier this month by signing a new two-year contract with Liverpool. “I mean, he’s a superstar,” Al-Faisal told ESPN. “He’s an Arab and

Ademola Lookman’s dip in form casts shadow over Atalanta’s European aspirations

Ademola Lookman’s recent struggles in front of goal are mirroring Atalanta’s slump in form, with both player and club faltering at a crucial point in the Serie A campaign. The Nigerian forward, who has been a consistent attacking threat throughout the season, has gone four league matches without a goal or assist—his longest drought of the campaign. With 13 goals and 5 assists in 26 Serie A appearances, Lookman has remained a key figure in Gian Piero Gasperini’s setup, but his silence in recent weeks has coincided with Atalanta’s faltering push for European qualification. Lookman last found the net on March 9, in a dominant 4-0 win over Juventus. Since

Saudi Sports Minister says there were no talks with Salah despite admiration for Liverpool star

Saudi Arabia’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, has clarified that there were no official discussions between the kingdom and Mohamed Salah regarding a potential move to the Saudi Pro League. While expressing admiration for the Liverpool forward, Al-Faisal emphasised that any reports linking Salah with a switch to Saudi Arabia were unfounded. Salah, who recently ended transfer speculation by signing a new two-year deal with Liverpool, has long been linked with a move to the Gulf nation. However, the minister denied any direct engagement by government officials in such negotiations. “I mean, he’s a superstar,” Al-Faisal told ESPN. “He’s an Arab and Muslim icon. “He embodies the identity
