Former Gabonese midfielder Stéphane Nguéma Ondo has expressed his confidence in the national team ahead of their crucial clash against Ivory Coast. Speaking to Gaboneco, Nguéma Ondo highlighted the strengths of the Gabonese squad, particularly noting the presence of star player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“Ivory Coast is certainly the African champion and therefore the favorite in this match,” Nguéma Ondo acknowledged.

“But let’s not forget that Equatorial Guinea, without disrespecting this nation, beat Ivory Coast at home during the last AFCON (4-0).

So this is to tell you that Gabon will have its say during this confrontation.”

The former midfielder’s prediction for the match is a cautious one, leaning towards a draw but with a hopeful nod towards a Gabonese victory.

“My prediction, 1-1, but from the bottom of my heart, I wish the Panthers win this match,” he said.

Currently, Gabon sits in second place in Group F with six points, having secured victories against Kenya (2-1) and Burundi (2-1).

A win against Ivory Coast would significantly bolster their position and keep them on course for the next stage, ahead of the match on the fourth day.

This upcoming match is seen as pivotal for Gabon’s campaign, with fans and analysts eagerly anticipating the outcome.

Nguéma Ondo’s insights and predictions add to the excitement, offering a blend of realistic expectation and hopeful aspiration for the Gabonese team.

The Panthers are set to face a formidable opponent, but with strong performances from key players and strategic play, they could potentially pull off a surprising result against the reigning champions.
