Following Niger’s complaint, FIFA has levied a substantial sanction on the Gabon national team. In addition to the defeat on the green carpet, Gabon is required to pay a fine of 5,000 euros. This punitive action stems from the inclusion of Charly Mossono in the Gabon squad during the group D playoff match of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Niger’s Mena.
Charly Moussono, originally Cameroonian by birth, had been naturalized and possessed a Gabonese passport. However, FIFA contends that he had not obtained the necessary authorization to play for the Gabonese team, leading to the imposed penalties.
This decision has sparked discontent among some fans, with a determination to file a complaint against FIFA, citing negligence in handling the eligibility issue. The situation highlights the importance of adhering to FIFA regulations and obtaining proper authorization for players to participate in international competitions.
