Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set for La Liga switch

Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is edging closer to a move to the Spanish La Liga ahead of the new season.

According to reports, newly promoted La Liga club Deportivo La Coruña have opened advanced negotiations to secure the services of the former Arsenal and Barcelona attacker as they prepare for their return to Spain’s top flight.

Talks between the two clubs are progressing positively, with a transfer fee believed to be in the region of €1.5 million expected to be enough to finalize the move. Should the deal be completed, Aubameyang would make a return to La Liga, where he previously enjoyed a successful spell with Barcelona.

The 36-year-old joined Marseille as a free agent in the summer of 2025 after leaving his previous club and quickly became an important figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. Despite his advancing age, Aubameyang continued to demonstrate his goal-scoring ability during the 2025/26 season, contributing significantly in attack.

The Gabon captain featured 41 times across all competitions for Marseille, scoring 14 goals and registering 10 assists, underlining his continued influence at the highest level of European football.

Deportivo La Coruña, who have secured promotion back to La Liga, are now looking to add experience and attacking quality to their squad ahead of their return to Spain’s elite division. Aubameyang’s pace, movement, and proven record in Europe could make him a key addition as the club aims to establish itself among Spain’s top teams once again.

A move to Deportivo would mark another chapter in Aubameyang’s remarkable career, which has seen him represent clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Marseille while becoming one of Africa’s most prolific forwards of his generation.
