As the football season in Gabon approaches its conclusion, the Playoffs of the second division football championship have determined the teams set to compete in the elite division for the upcoming season. Océan de Mayumba and Port-Gentil FC secured their tickets for the 1st division in the semi-finals held recently.
In the Port-Gentil-Stade Mandi derby, POG emerged victorious after a penalty shootout (4-3), following a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The lone goal at Stade Mandji was netted by Togolese player Zico Kossi Séklé.
In the other semi-final, Mayumba triumphed over Ballon d’or de l’Estuaire in a penalty shootout (4-3) after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
FC 105, considered a favorite at the beginning of the season, along with Ballon d’or, will have to wait until the next season to make their bid for a place in the elite division. The competition has showcased the unpredictability and excitement inherent in football playoffs.
