Gabon is in search of a new coach for its national football team, the Panthers, following the dismissal of Paolo Duarté. The Gabonese Football Federation had received 14 applications for the position, and after a selection process, three coaches have emerged as potential candidates.
The shortlist includes local coach Claude-Albert Mbourounot, Frenchman Pierre Lechantre, and Belgian Georges Leekens. Mbourounot previously led the Gabon under-23 team to the African title in 2011. Pierre Lechantre has experience in African football, having won the 2000 African Cup of Nations with the Cameroon national team. Georges Leekens also has experience in Africa, notably coaching the Algerian national team.
The decision on the new coach is yet to be finalized, and the committee handling the selection process may take its time to choose the next leader for the Gabon national team.
