The Gabon National Football League (LINAF) is set to elect a new board this Friday, with three candidates vying for the presidency:
Joel Anicet Birinda, the outgoing president who has led LINAF since its inception four years ago. Despite his tenure, Birinda faces criticism over mismanagement, including numerous irregularities in the first and second division championships. Under his leadership, the new season was delayed for 10 months and will only resume this Saturday.
Brice Mbicka Ndjambou, the vice-president of the outgoing board and considered the frontrunner. He emphasizes his experience in football administration and reportedly has the backing of Frédéric Gassita, president of FC Akanda and a close associate of Gabon’s president, Ali Bongo.
Guy Mbinah, a former footballer for FC 105 Libreville who has since become a successful businessman with ventures in civil engineering, oil site security, and real estate. Seen as the players’ candidate, he offers an alternative to the administrative insiders.
With the election imminent, the campaign is in full swing as each candidate finalizes their strategies to win the presidency of LINAF.
