Gabon has launched its first professional football championship, marking a historic moment for the country. The Gabonese Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, officially inaugurated the season with the match between CF Mounana and Union Sportive de Bitam (0-1). The championship, consisting of 14 teams, is scheduled to conclude on May 26, 2013. The government has invested 10 billion CFA francs (approximately 15.24 million euros) to support the teams participating in the inaugural professional championship. The move is seen as an effort to attract investors and create opportunities for players and coaches in Gabon.
