Gabon shortlist three candidates for national team role

Gabon’s football federation has trimmed a list of 605 applicants for the national team position down to three finalists, with a decision on the next head coach expected in the coming days.

The Gabonese Football Federation (Fegafoot) confirmed that the recruitment process has entered its final phase after a series of individual interviews with selected candidates.

The names of the three remaining contenders have now been submitted to the Minister of Sports, Paul Kessany, who will make the final decision.

According to Sport News Africa, the shortlisted coaches bring experience from both African and European football.

Among them is Régis Bogaert, known for his role as a former assistant coach with Senegal. Also in contention is Frédéric Bompard, who has previously worked with French clubs Nîmes and Sochaux. Completing the trio is Anthony Da Silva, a former assistant coach with Cameroon.

The reduction from more than six hundred applications to just three names marks a significant step in the federation’s search for a new direction.

The process reflects what officials describe as a thorough evaluation aimed at identifying the right candidate to lead the Panthers into their next competitive cycle.

The appointment of a new coach is seen as a pivotal moment for Gabonese football, with expectations that the incoming manager will shape the team’s future ambitions on the continental stage.

An official announcement is anticipated shortly, signalling the beginning of a new chapter for the national side as preparations continue for upcoming international challenges.
