Nigerian winger Funsho Bamgboye has embarked on a new chapter in his football career by signing with Turkish club Hatayspor until 2026. The transfer was finalized on Friday, July 5, 2024, marking a significant move from his previous stint at Rapid Bucharest in Romania.

Following two years with Rapid Bucharest and after becoming a free agent, Bamgboye opted to join Hatayspor in the highly competitive Turkish Super Lig.

The club confirmed the signing after completing a successful medical examination and contractual formalities.

“Our new signing, Funsho Ibrahim Bamgboye, underwent a medical at Acibadem Fulya Hospital,” Hatayspor announced via their official channels.

Bamgboye, once hailed as a rising star in Nigerian football, gained prominence for his contributions to the national team’s U-17 World Cup triumph in 2015, where he played a pivotal role with one goal and three assists.

Alongside talents like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, he emerged as a promising prospect for Nigerian football.

After his early successes, Bamgboye’s career trajectory led him through the Hungarian championship for eight years before his recent tenure in Romania.

His move to Hatayspor represents an opportunity to reignite his career ambitions, including aspirations to earn a recall to the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.

“With last season marking my best statistical performance of five goals and six assists, I am eager to contribute to Hatayspor’s ambitions and hopefully catch the attention of the national selectors,” Bamgboye stated, highlighting his determination to excel in his new environment.

Hatayspor, based in Turkey’s top football division, provides Bamgboye with a platform to showcase his skills in a competitive league known for its fast-paced and technically demanding style of play.

The Nigerian winger’s arrival underscores the club’s commitment to strengthening its squad ahead of the upcoming season.

As Bamgboye settles into his new surroundings at Hatayspor, both the club and its supporters anticipate his integration into the team and his potential impact on their quest for success in domestic and possibly continental competitions.

With his experience and proven ability, Bamgboye aims to make a positive impression and contribute significantly to Hatayspor’s objectives in the seasons ahead.
