FSV Mainz 05 secures Silas with contract extension
FSV Mainz 05 have officially confirmed a contract extension with striker Silas, ensuring the 27-year-old attacker stays with the Rheinhessen after both parties agreed on a new deal.
Notably, Mainz chose not to exercise a contractual option already agreed before the injury, instead crafting a fresh solution that benefits both sides. Media reports indicate the agreement is a one-year contract with a renewed option to extend further.
Silas suffered a broken shin and fibula in early March during the UEFA Conference League eighth-final first leg against Sigma Olomouc. Despite this setback, Mainz officials remained committed to the forward.
“For us it was clear the evening in Olomouc that we would not let Silas down – a given at Mainz 05,” explained sporting director Niko Bungert. He said Silas performed “very well” before the injury and was simply plagued by bad luck.
Silas expressed gratitude for the club’s support. “I am very thankful to Mainz 05’s management that they immediately signaled maximum support for me,” he said. His focus now is on completing rehabilitation successfully and returning to the pitch as soon as possible to strengthen the 05ers’ attack again.
