FC Nantes have handed a first professional contract to 20-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Emmanuel Kiah after a series of strong performances for the club’s reserve side.
The midfielder, who arrived last summer after training at Sim’s Academy in Bafoussam, impressed coaches while playing in National 3.
Nantes have now secured his services until 2029 following his rapid adaptation to French football.
Kiah is described as a versatile midfielder capable of operating in several roles.
His physical condition, vision and work rate quickly convinced the club hierarchy to promote him, particularly after he took part in sessions with the senior squad.
His former youth coach Yvan Kenmoe praised the player’s development, saying:
“He’s a player I coached at my youth academy. He’s leaving my home for FC Nantes. He’s very disciplined and hardworking. What’s happening to him today isn’t a matter of chance, but of hard work. He’s someone who always strives to improve every time he plays. He’s a complete midfielder who can score and defend. He has everything he needs to succeed, and I wish him all the best.”
Kiah was initially spotted during a youth tournament organised in Douala by former Cameroon international Aurélien Chedjou, after which Nantes recruited him.
He first joined the club’s under-19 squad before becoming a regular starter for the reserves, making 15 appearances and even wearing the captain’s armband.
His consistent displays exceeded expectations and prompted the club to formalise his promotion with a long-term deal.
The move reflects Nantes’ confidence in the midfielder’s progression and potential pathway to first-team football.
Kiah is also a Cameroon under-20 international, having represented his country in several competitions, gaining experience considered valuable for his professional development.
The club now hope his rise through the academy system will continue at senior level, marking the next stage in the young midfielder’s career in France.
