FRMF congratulates CAF for upholding rules after controversial AFCON final
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has welcomed the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s decision to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, highlighting the importance of respecting competition rules.
In an official statement, the FRMF stressed that its appeal to CAF was always grounded in adherence to the regulations rather than questioning the sporting merit of any team.
“From the very first incidents that led to the match being interrupted, the FRMF made its demand known and consistently reiterated it: the strict application of the competition’s regulations,” the statement read.
The Moroccan federation also emphasised its full cooperation throughout the proceedings, participating in all hearings and submitting its conclusions to ensure the proper enforcement of rules.
The FRMF said the Appeals Committee’s decision clarifies regulations for future competitions and strengthens the credibility and consistency of international football in Africa.
“Following an initial decision which the FRMF had appealed, the CAF today acknowledges that the rule, known to all and applicable to all, had not been respected,” the statement continued.
Looking ahead, the FRMF confirmed its commitment to upholding competition regulations in both continental and international tournaments.
The federation also noted that Morocco’s focus remains on preparing for upcoming events, including the Women’s World Cup and the Women’s AFCON, scheduled for this summer.
The statement concluded by congratulating all nations that participated in the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, praising the tournament as a major celebration of African football.
By framing the ruling as a victory for rules and consistency, the FRMF aims to reinforce the importance of fair play while acknowledging the contentious circumstances surrounding the final match.
