Morocco’s friendly against Qatar ended in a 0-0 draw on Wednesday, which coach Badou Zaki found disappointing but ultimately useful as part of their Africa Cup of Nations preparations.
Zaki acknowledged the challenges: “The match wasn’t easy. We faced several obstacles.” Despite not winning, he praised the team’s performance, especially from players in the second and third lines. He emphasized his long-term vision for the team’s future, noting the difficulty caused by absences and limited squad depth — for example, having no backup striker on the bench and relying mostly on wingers.
He highlighted that Morocco still created multiple scoring chances but suffered from haste and a lack of confidence in finishing. Overall, Zaki said, “Personally, I’m satisfied with the performance and I’ve learned some lessons.”
The Atlas Lions will next face Libya on Sunday in Marrakech.
