The Black Queens of Ghana showcased resilience and impressive attacking play on Wednesday evening as they secured a 4-2 win over Benin in a friendly encounter ahead of the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Currently based in Morocco for their final phase of preparations, the Queens are ramping up their readiness for the continental tournament, which kicks off on July 5.
The game against Benin marked the second of three pre-tournament friendlies lined up by the Ghana women’s national team. They had already impressed in a 3-1 win over Malawi last Saturday.
Ghana made an early statement in the match, with defender Nina Norshie finding the back of the net just four minutes after kickoff. However, Benin responded swiftly, equalising in the 11th minute and then taking the lead in the 32nd minute to go into halftime 2-1 up.
Undeterred by the setback, the Black Queens returned stronger in the second half. A spirited performance saw them turn the game around with goals from Alice Kusi, Susan Duah, and Chantelle Hlorkah, sealing a deserved 4-2 victory.
Having won their last two matches, the Black Queens will now prepare for their final friendly match against the Super Falcons of Nigeria on June 29.
