French-Togolese midfielder Corentin Tolisso to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury
France midfielder of Togolese descent, Corentin Tolisso will miss Olympique Lyon’s remaining matches of the 2024/25 football season due to a knee injury.
The highly-rated midfielder suffered the injury during Lyon’s derby against Saint-Etienne over the weekend.
Tolisso was stretchered off following a heavy challenge from Belgian forward Lucas Stassin. The Belgian was initially shown a red card for the tackle, but after a VAR review, the decision was changed to a yellow.
Tolisso’s early exit raised immediate concerns, especially given his history of serious knee injuries. Following several assessments and scans, it has been confirmed that the midfielder has suffered a knee injury.
This becomes his third knee injury in his career.
Fortunately for both player and club, scans have revealed that the injury is less severe than first feared.
Medical reports have revealed that Tolisso sustained a small internal sprain rather than ligament damage or tears.
He is expected to spend several weeks on the sidelines, which could see him miss all the remaining matches of Olympique Lyon in the 2024/25 season.
