Corentin Tolisso will miss Olympique Lyonnais’ upcoming match against AS Monaco on Saturday due to a recurrence of the knee injury that previously sidelined him in late April.
The French midfielder, who is of Togolese descent, initially suffered the injury during Lyon’s defeat to AS Saint-Étienne on April 20.
At the time, it was feared that Tolisso would be out for the remainder of the season. However, in an unexpected turn of events, he made a swift recovery and returned to action just a week later.
Unfortunately, the 30-year-old has experienced a setback, and will now miss the crucial clash with Monaco at the Stade Louis II.
Lyon’s hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League spot are heavily reliant on the outcome of this fixture, making Tolisso’s absence all the more significant.
With the recurrence of his knee issue, Tolisso is also uncertain for Lyon’s final Ligue 1 match of the season against SCO Angers.
The club, however, will welcome the return of Alexandre Lacazette, who was suspended for the previous defeat to RC Lens.
Lacazette’s presence offers some reassurance as Lyon faces the uphill challenge of keeping their European dreams alive.
Tolisso’s injury issues have raised concerns about his fitness as Lyon enters the final stages of the season.
His role in the midfield has been integral, and his absence could leave a noticeable gap in the squad.
