André-Pierre Gignac has been officially recalled to the French national team by coach Didier Deschamps. The Marseille striker, who had not been part of the national team since the 2010 World Cup, is included in the squad of 25 players for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Belarus. Gignac’s strong start to the season, scoring three goals in three matches, earned him the call-up. The absence of Yohan Cabaye, who was pending a transfer to Newcastle, and the fitness concerns of Yoann Gourcuff influenced Deschamps’ decision.
