French outfit Strasbourg interested in signing Franco-Congolese defender Saël Kumbedi
Strasbourg have expressed firm interest in Franco-Congolese defender Saël Kumbedi in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The French outfit are keen on strengthening their squad for the 2025/2026 football campaign, and the 20-year-old, who plies his trade for fellow French outfit Olympique Marseille have emerged as a priority target.
Saël Kumbedi had an impressive breakthrough season in the 2022/23 campaign, but struggled for consistent game time in the recently concluded campaign.
His fortunes took a turn when Pierre Sage was appointed midway through the 2023/24 season, making a handful of appearances for the former manager. However, his game time significantly increased with the arrival of Paulo Fonseca.
The defender is growing frustrated amid limited game time at the club in recent times and will consider a move away from the club this summer.
With Lyon’s new era of austerity beginning in earnest following their successful relegation appeal, there is an impetus to sell assets this summer.
Despite his limited game time, Kumbedi’s value has not fallen and could be transferred in the ongoing window amid recent interest in the right-back.
Strasbourg had previously held an interest last summer and could return to the table. And the project could prove to be appealing, as Le Racing have proven over the past season to have faith in putting young talent with a point to prove at the very centre of their team.
