French outfit Lille sign Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thato Sibiya on loan

French Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille have announced the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thato Sibiya in the current transfer window.

The 20-year-old South African defender joins the French club on a season-long loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign.

Sibiya will initially be integrated into their Pro 2 group as he begins his adaptation to French football.

“LOSC today announces the signing of the young and promising South African defender, Thato Sibiya (20) from Mamelodi Sundowns FC (South Africa). The latter is loaned to the Club for one season (with purchase option) and will initially join the Pro 2 group,” the club stated.

The move represents an important opportunity for Sibiya, who will now continue his development in European football after progressing through the ranks at one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

Sibiya had been part of Sundowns’ preparations for the new campaign and travelled with the squad to Austria for pre-season under head coach Miguel Cardoso.
