French outfit Lille confirms Morocco’s Hamza Igamane season ending injury
French Ligue 1 outfit Lille confirmed Morocco international Hamza Igamane will be out of action for several months following an injury setback at the just ended 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Igamane, who joined the French club last summer succumbed to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while in action for the Morocco in the blockbuster final against Senegal last Sunday.
Igamane was introduced in the first half of the extra-time, entering the field in the 97th minute, before being forced off with injury minutes later, following a collision with the Senegalese goalkeeper.
“Tests carried out on the player have unfortunately confirmed a serious injury. Hamza Igamane has indeed suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” Lille said in a statement. “Hamza will be unavailable for several months,”
The setback come as a huge blow for Lille, as they gears up for a crucial second half of the football campaign. He is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days to correct the injury setback.
Meanwhile, Lille in a statement has backed the Morocco international, affirming commitment to providing him with medical and moral support to ensure his strong return to the field and continued success.
Since joining Lille last summer, the 23-year-old has made 21 appearances, scoring 9 goals and delivering two assists across competitions.
