French Ligue 1 side Le Havre have identified Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal as a potential signing following the termination of his contract with Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Le Havre are planning to bolster their attacking options with two additions during the ongoing winter transfer window as they push to secure their Ligue 1 status. The club currently sits 13th in the league standings and is keen to reinforce its squad in the second half of the season.
The report indicates that Boufal is set to join Le Havre on a free transfer after mutually parting ways with Union Saint-Gilloise at the start of January. The Moroccan forward is said to be close to sealing a deal that would keep him at the club until the end of the season, subject to a successful medical examination.
L’Equipe further noted that Le Havre’s recruitment plans include another attacking player arriving on loan from Bournemouth, following previous loan spells at Lorient in 2023, Brest during the 2024–2025 campaign, and Saudi Arabian side Al-Taawoun in 2025. Boufal, who has earned 46 caps and scored eight goals for Morocco, is expected to complete his move independently as a free agent.
In recent weeks, Boufal’s name had also been linked with a possible return to Morocco, with reports suggesting interest from Wydad Athletic Club after his departure from the Belgian side.
