France-born midfielder of Ivorian descent, Emmanuel Koné, is set to stay at AS Roma for the upcoming season despite the strong interest from Inter Milan.
Talks between the two clubs came to an abrupt end just days after Inter unexpectedly opened negotiations with Roma. According to Sky Sport, the Giallorossi rejected a €40 million offer from the Nerazzurri, ultimately deciding to keep hold of the 24-year-old.
Roma’s management reportedly considered the bid but ultimately deemed Koné unsellable, especially with just two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window and one week before the start of the new Serie A campaign.
For Inter, the move for Koné came as an alternative after a prolonged stalemate in negotiations with Atalanta for forward Ademola Lookman.
With the Koné pursuit now over, the Nerazzurri must decide whether to revisit the Lookman deal or shift focus to strengthening other areas of their squad.
