Concarneau have completed the signing of goalkeeper Pierre Patron from Quevilly-Rouen Métropole (QRM) to provide cover following the injury of first-choice shot-stopper Vincent Viot.

The Normandy club confirmed on Monday that Patron, who joined QRM in July 2024, has left to join the Breton side in the Championnat National. Concarneau were forced into the market after Viot sustained an injury during the recent league encounter between the two sides.

His coach, Stéphane Rossi, told Ouest-France that the 33-year-old would be sidelined for “at least six weeks,” leaving a crucial gap to fill between the posts.

Patron, 28, brings considerable experience to Concarneau, having amassed 76 appearances in the French third tier alongside 16 outings in Ligue 2. Prior to his move to Normandy, he had represented Belgian side Charleroi, where he gained valuable exposure at the professional level.

During his time with QRM, Patron quickly established himself as a reliable last line of defence. The club highlighted his standout contributions during the winter of 2024 and his exceptional displays in the Coupe de France.

In its farewell statement, QRM praised the French goalkeeper’s commitment and professionalism, emphasising the impact he made in his 16 official matches for the Leopards.

“Arriving at QRM at the beginning of July 2024, our last bulwark joins Finistère. He played 16 official matches with the Leopards, during which Pierre Patron gave full satisfaction.

We particularly remember his fine performances during the winter of 2024, as well as his excellent performances in the Coupe de France. The entire club salutes his professionalism and wishes him every success in his new project,” the club said on its official website.

For Concarneau, the timing of the move was crucial, with the club in need of immediate reinforcements after confirmation of Viot’s lengthy absence. Patron is expected to step directly into the first-team setup, ensuring that Rossi’s side remain competitive during a critical phase of the campaign.

QRM, meanwhile, are left to adjust their own squad following the departure of a key player brought in only months earlier. However, the club’s management acknowledged that the transfer was necessary to allow Patron the chance to play regular football and to provide Concarneau with urgent cover in goal.

Patron’s arrival represents more than just a stopgap for Concarneau. His track record in France’s lower divisions suggests he could play a decisive role in stabilising the team’s performances while Viot recovers. Known for his sharp reflexes, composure under pressure, and consistent shot-stopping, Patron offers both quality and reliability.

At 28, he is entering the prime years of his career, and his new challenge in Finistère provides an opportunity to reaffirm his status as one of the more dependable goalkeepers in the National division.

For Concarneau, whose ambitions hinge on maintaining stability, his signing is seen as a timely and valuable acquisition.

The move also underscores the fluid nature of squad building in France’s lower tiers, where injuries can quickly reshape a team’s priorities.

Patron now takes on the responsibility of anchoring Concarneau’s defensive unit, with supporters hoping he can replicate the form that earned him plaudits at QRM.

As Viot begins his road to recovery, Concarneau’s hopes will rest on Patron’s ability to step seamlessly into the role and keep the club competitive in the weeks ahead.
