French-Ivorian forward Elye Wahi set for Eintracht Frankfurt departure in January amid struggle for form
France-born forward of Ivorian descent, Elye Wahi, is reportedly set to leave German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the winter transfer window.
According to sources, Eintracht Frankfurt are actively seeking a new centre-forward ahead of the winter transfer window.
Despite signing a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Bundesliga club last January, Wahi’s stint in Germany has yet to take off.
The 22-year-old arrived at Frankfurt after a brief five-month spell with Olympique de Marseille, where he scored three goals in 13 Ligue 1 appearances.
Before that, he enjoyed a breakout season with Montpellier, netting 19 goals in 33 matches and earning the Ligue 1 Goal of the Year award for 2022,23.
However, his transition to German football has been rocky. Wahi remains goalless for Frankfurt and has yet to complete a full 90 minutes. His most notable contribution came in the UEFA Champions League against Galatasaray, where he assisted Ansgar Knauff’s goal.
Manager Dino Topmöller has been frank about Wahi’s performance, calling for more aggression and impact in possession.
General manager Markus Krösche echoed those concerns, citing a lack of confidence as a major hurdle.
Unlike fellow forwards Hugo Ekitiké and Randal Kolo Muani, who flourished at Frankfurt, Wahi has struggled to replicate his earlier form.
With the winter transfer window opening on January 1, his future at the club hangs in the balance.
