French-Ivorian defender Leny Yoro backed by Ruben Amorim after Crystal Palace slip

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has revealed the message he sent to Leny Yoro following his costly error against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The 20-year-old French-Ivorian defender conceded a 36th-minute penalty, converted by Jean-Philippe Mateta, giving Palace an early lead.

Despite United’s comeback through goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount, attention remained on Yoro, who appeared dejected when substituted for Noussair Mazraoui.

Amorim, speaking in his latest press conference, emphasised that Yoro is “really frustrated” because he overthinks during matches.

“I also spoke with him because he thinks too much. He makes a mistake in the game, and then he struggles because he’s too young and wants to do everything so well,” the United boss said.

The manager noted that Yoro’s reaction highlights his commitment and willingness to learn.

“He’s growing, with games and setbacks. It’s not easy for him as a young guy. He cannot give that to the people the way he came to the bench. He understands that, but he was really frustrated,” Amorim added.

Despite the early-season hiccup, the Portuguese coach stressed the defender’s potential.

“On the good side, it shows that he cares. He knows it wasn’t his best game but he did some things well, and I showed him that also. He’s fit and ready for the next challenge.”

Yoro is expected to return to the starting lineup for United’s upcoming clash with West Ham at Old Trafford on Thursday.
