French-Ivorian defender Élie N’Gatta signs first professional contract with FC Sochaux

Élie N’Gatta, a French defender of Ivorian descent, has signed his first professional contract with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, marking a significant step in his young career.

The club confirmed the news this week, announcing that the 19-year-old has committed his future to the Lionceaux until 2028.

The deal comes after a period of steady progression that has seen N’Gatta rise through the youth and reserve ranks to earn a regular place in the first-team squad.

N’Gatta began his development at US Orléans, where he featured prominently for the club’s under-19 side, amassing 31 appearances across all competitions.

His performances drew the attention of Sochaux, who brought him in during the summer of 2024. The young defender wasted no time in making an impression, quickly establishing himself with consistent displays at both reserve and youth levels.

His promise was rewarded last season with senior opportunities. He made his professional debut in January during the Coupe de France against EA Guingamp, a dramatic tie that ended in a marathon penalty shootout, eventually lost 11–10. T

wo months later, he appeared in the National (France’s third tier) against Valenciennes, gaining further valuable first-team experience.

Over the summer, N’Gatta participated fully in pre-season with the senior squad. His attitude, work ethic and defensive qualities caught the eye of the technical staff, convincing them of his readiness to take the next step.

That faith has been repaid in the early stages of the current campaign, where he has already made four league appearances, accumulating 156 minutes of playing time.

For N’Gatta, the signing of his first professional contract represents not only a personal milestone but also the culmination of years of steady development.

It also highlights Sochaux’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent, a philosophy long associated with the club’s history of producing young players.

While his professional journey is only beginning, the defender’s rapid rise suggests he could play an increasingly important role in Sochaux’s ambitions this season and beyond. For now, N’Gatta will look to continue his growth, secure more playing time, and establish himself as a reliable presence within the senior squad.

With his first contract secured until 2028, the French-Ivorian youngster now has the platform to shape his future in the professional game — and Sochaux will hope his development mirrors the promise he has already shown.
