Dylan Ourega has completed a move to Belgian side KVC Westerlo, with the 21-year-old left-back leaving EA Guingamp in search of what he describes as the next step in his career.
The French-Ivorian defender has signed a long-term contract with the Jupiler Pro League club, running until 30 June 2030.
The transfer fee is estimated at around one million euros, reflecting Westerlo’s belief in the player’s potential and their desire to invest in his future.
Ourega says the decision to leave France was carefully considered and driven by the clarity of the project presented to him by his new club.
Speaking to Africasoccer, he explained that the move offered the change he felt was necessary at this stage of his development.
“I needed a new project, a different environment to continue growing. Westerlo presented me with something clear, with confidence and a real sporting vision. That’s what made the difference.”
Having been trained in France, Ourega now embraces the challenge of adapting to Belgian football, a league often viewed as a platform for young players to develop through regular competition and intensity.
“The Jupiler Pro League is an intense, fast-paced league. It’s ideal for a player like me. I’m here to work hard, learn quickly, and gradually establish myself.”
Despite his age, the defender is keen to temper expectations and has made clear that he does not expect immediate guarantees. Instead, he has outlined a patient approach based on consistency and contribution.
“I’m not coming in with a certain status. I want to earn my place on the pitch. My goal is to be consistent, solid defensively, and contribute offensively when the team needs it.”
Ourega also reflected on his time at Guingamp, acknowledging the role the French club played in shaping his career and preparing him for this move abroad.
“Guingamp has given me a lot. Today, I leave with more maturity. This transfer is a logical next step. I want to show that I can take my game to the next level.”
Now in Westerlo, his focus is firmly on integration and understanding the demands of his new environment.
“I want to adapt quickly, understand the coach’s plan, and help the team. The most important thing is the team. If the team progresses, I’ll progress with it.”
With his market value estimated at around €500,000, the move represents both a sporting challenge and a significant opportunity for Ourega to establish himself in Belgian football.
