Stade de Reims has confirmed the transfer of French defender Abdoul Koné to RB Leipzig, with the 20-year-old set to remain on loan at the Ligue 2 BKT club until the end of the current season.
Koné, who joined Reims in 2023 from Paris FC, has featured in 18 league matches this season, scoring once and providing an assist.
Standing at 1.92m, the central defender has been a regular in the Reims backline as the club pursues promotion to Ligue 1.
In an official statement, Stade de Reims explained that the transfer agreement included a condition allowing Koné to finish the season with the club.
“This transfer was agreed upon subject to the loan of Abdoul Koné to Champagne until the end of the season.
A condition set by Stade de Reims, fully shared by the player, attached to the institution that revealed him and eager to finish the season in Red and White in order to support the team in its objective of promotion to Ligue 1,” the club said.
RB Leipzig also confirmed the agreement, highlighting that Koné will officially join the Bundesliga side for the 2026/27 season.
“The 1.92m central defender will remain at Reims on loan until the end of the current season, continuing his development in Ligue 2, before officially joining RB Leipzig,” the German club said in a press release.
Koné’s move represents a significant step in his career, with the young Frenchman expected to adapt to the challenges of the Bundesliga next season.
Reims will retain his services for the remainder of the campaign, aiming to benefit from his defensive stability as they compete for promotion to France’s top flight.
