French Champions Trophy to Be Held in Beijing for First Time
The French football season will kick off with the prestigious Champions Trophy, contested between the reigning Ligue 1 champions and the winners of the Coupe de France. This year’s match, set for August 2, will see Paris Saint-Germain face off against Guingamp.
For the fourth consecutive year, the traditional season curtain-raiser will be staged outside France. Following last year’s event in Gabon — where PSG defeated Bordeaux 1-0 — the 19th edition of the Trophée des Champions will be hosted for the first time in Asia, with Beijing, China selected as the venue.
To mark this historic occasion, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has unveiled a specially designed logo for the event. Incorporating the colors of the People’s Republic of China, the emblem features the iconic silhouette of the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing’s most renowned landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998.
The LFP highlighted the significance of the venue choice on its official website, emphasising the growing global reach of French football through staging marquee matches in new international markets.
Fans can look forward to an exciting showdown between PSG and Guingamp on August 2 as the curtain rises on the 2014-15 French football season.
