Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has opened discussions with the club over a potential contract extension, reflecting his desire to remain at Selhurst Park.

The French forward, who has Congolese heritage, is weighing his options as interest from other clubs, including Manchester United, continues to grow.

Mateta has been a prolific scorer for the Eagles, netting 54 goals in 171 appearances across all competitions.

His consistent output has established him as one of Europe’s most reliable forwards in recent seasons.

Palace value his experience and finishing ability, which has become central to their attacking strategies in the Premier League.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Mateta despite strengthening their forward line with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko over the summer.

The Red Devils are reportedly monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation closely, with 18 months left on his current contract, suggesting a potential move next summer.

Palace, however, have acted swiftly to initiate talks aimed at keeping Mateta at the club.

Sources cited by The Mirror report that the striker is receptive to the idea of extending his stay while evaluating his career trajectory.

Last month, Mateta addressed speculation about moving to a bigger club, telling RMC Sport, “It’s natural, every ambitious player wants to reach that milestone. Especially when you arrive in the national team… naturally you want to reach that milestone.”

This season, Mateta has already scored six goals in 11 appearances for Palace and has made a bright start to his French national team career, scoring twice in three caps under Didier Deschamps.
