French-Cameroonian star Kylian Mbappé hits Ronaldo-like numbers as Real Madrid soar to top of LaLiga
French forward Kylian Mbappé has made a breathtaking start to the 2025/26 season, cementing his status as one of world football’s most lethal finishers.
The Real Madrid talisman was recently crowned LaLiga’s Player of the Month for September and continued his blistering form in October with a goal in Los Blancos’ 3-1 victory over Villarreal CF.
That result, coupled with Barcelona’s defeat to Sevilla, ensured Madrid entered the international break at the summit of the league table.
Mbappé, who was born to a Cameroonian father and an Algerian mother, currently leads the Pichichi Trophy race with nine goals from eight league matches, three clear of Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez.
The 26-year-old is on course to defend both his LaLiga Golden Boot and last season’s European Golden Shoe.
Across Europe’s top five leagues, only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has scored more goals this campaign.
Mbappé has netted 14 goals in 10 games — nine in LaLiga and five in the Champions League — a tally unmatched in Europe’s premier competition.
His start this season has been dramatically faster than last year’s adaptation period at Real Madrid, when he needed 27 games to score 14 times.
Now averaging 1.4 goals per match, comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo’s golden years in Madrid are inevitable.
“He’s decisive in every match right now,” coach Xabi Alonso said.
“He is proving to be clinical in front of goal. I’m very happy with Kylian and the positive influence he is having in the dressing room. He could have a spectacular season.”
After scoring 45 goals in all competitions last term, Mbappé is already on pace to surpass the 50-goal milestone — a feat that could redefine his legacy in Madrid and solidify his claim as Ronaldo’s true successor.
