Real Madrid have placed forward Kylian Mbappé on a slow, conservative recovery program to allow his knee injury to heal fully, ruling him out of all fixtures in the Spanish Super Cup.
The decision follows medical assessments that a rushed return could compromise the player’s long-term fitness and performance.
Mbappé, whose father is Cameroonian and mother Algerian, was initially expected to miss only the semi-final against Atlético Madrid.
However, a sprain in his left ankle has now made participation in the entire Super Cup impossible, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Real Madrid’s medical team has emphasized a cautious approach to ensure Mbappé returns at full strength rather than in a diminished form.
“The club’s doctors have temporarily suspended him from running, insisting on complete rest with no risk to his knee,” the report noted.
Mbappé may still travel with the squad to Saudi Arabia, but solely in a moral support role, rather than as an active participant.
AS highlighted that the club is adopting a step-by-step recovery plan without specifying a definitive return date. This measured approach comes after Mbappé showed signs of fatigue and underperformance in recent appearances, raising concerns that an accelerated comeback could lead to further setbacks.
The setback represents more than just a temporary loss for Real Madrid. It is reportedly the 23rd injury or complication to affect the team this season, prompting the club to make adjustments to the medical staff.
Niko Mihic has been reinstated as part of the medical team under the orders of president Florentino Pérez, reflecting the urgency with which the club is managing its injury crisis.
