French-Algerian midfielder Rayan Cherki says he feels 'very good' after starring in Man City’s Cup win

French-Algerian midfielder Rayan Cherki expressed delight after inspiring Manchester City to a 3-1 comeback win against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The 22-year-old marked his return from injury with a goal and an assist, earning the man-of-the-match award as Pep Guardiola’s side booked their place in the quarterfinals.

Born in France but of Algerian heritage, Cherki continues to grow in influence for the English champions since joining from Lyon.

His creative flair and technical control were central to City’s dominance at the Swansea.com Stadium.

“I’m feeling very good because I hadn’t played for a very long time,” Cherki told City TV.

“I’m very happy to be back to help my friends. I just want to play. When I’m out I’m not happy, and when I’m on the pitch I’m happy.”

City had fallen behind to a stunning strike from Swansea midfielder Goncalo Franco, but Jeremy Doku’s deflected shot leveled the score before halftime.

Guardiola made 10 changes to his starting lineup, yet his side maintained composure and control after the break.

Cherki’s vision proved decisive when he slipped a perfect through-ball for Omar Marmoush, who lashed home City’s second 13 minutes from time.

The Frenchman then sealed victory with a composed low finish in added time — his first goal since August.

The win continues City’s strong record in the League Cup, which they have lifted eight times.

Guardiola praised his side’s response after the early setback, particularly their patience and precision in possession.

Swansea’s energetic start had briefly threatened an upset, but City’s quality prevailed in the second half.

The Premier League leaders will now host Brentford in the quarterfinals as they aim for yet another domestic trophy.

Cherki’s performance, coming after weeks on the sidelines, reinforced his growing importance in Guardiola’s squad — and his hunger to make a lasting impact this season.
