Franselido Santos tops historic goal scorers for Tunisia in AFCON; eyes set on AFCON 2024

In a comprehensive overview of Tunisia’s national football team’s historic goal scorers in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), “Extra Football” brings you a detailed account of the top performers throughout the years.

At the pinnacle stands the Brazilian-born striker Franselido Santos, leading Tunisia’s all-time goal scorers in AFCON history with an impressive tally of 10 goals in the 2004, 2006, and 2008 editions.

Santos played a pivotal role in Tunisia’s maiden AFCON title in 2004 when he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer.

Youssef Msakni, the talented winger, secures the second spot, boasting six goals across the 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019 tournaments.

Msakni, with his goal-scoring prowess, remains poised to add to his tally in the upcoming edition, leveraging his youth and ability to maintain peak performance over the next two tournaments.

Occupying the third position is the former Tunisian football star, Mohamed Salah Jedidi, who netted four goals in the 1962, 1963, and 1965 AFCON editions.

Zoubeir Baya, the ex-Tunisian striker from Club Africain, follows closely in fourth place with three goals in the 1996, 1998, and 2000 tournaments.

Sharing the fourth spot is former Al-Ittihad Jeddah striker Ahmed Akashi, who, in the 2015 edition, matched Baya’s three-goal record.

Similarly, Naim Sliti achieved the same goal tally in the 2017 and 2019 editions.

With the anticipation building in the Tunisian sports community for the imminent AFCON 2024, scheduled to commence in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, Tunisia is gearing up for Group F clashes alongside Mali, South Africa, and Namibia.

Tunisia’s journey in the continental championship kicks off with a match against Namibia on January 16, followed by encounters with Mali on January 20 and South Africa on January 24.
