Frankfurt agree €1m-plus deal for Tunisia midfielder Ellyes Skhiri

Ellyes Skhiri has agreed to return to 1. FC Koln from Eintracht Frankfurt after the two Bundesliga clubs reached a full agreement over the Tunisia midfielder’s transfer, according to reports in Germany.

Skhiri has given the green light to a move back to his former club, German Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported. The deal is worth €1m (£860,000), with additional payments included in the agreement.

The 30-year-old is scheduled to undergo his medical on Thursday before signing a contract with 1. FC Koln on Friday. The proposed agreement is expected to run until 2028.

Skhiri previously spent four seasons with 1. FC Koln after joining the club in 2019. During that spell, he made 118 appearances and scored 17 goals before leaving in 2023 to join Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer.

His return comes after Eintracht Frankfurt made it clear the player could leave this summer. Skhiri had fallen out of the club’s plans and was therefore available for a move despite having joined the side without a transfer fee two years ago.

The midfielder is expected to provide 1. FC Koln with experience both domestically and internationally. He has played more than 200 Bundesliga matches in total and remains an important member of the Tunisia national team, known as the Carthage Eagles.

If completed as planned, the move would mark Skhiri’s return to the club where he established himself in German football. His previous 118 appearances for 1. FC Koln came before his switch to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he continued to build his Bundesliga experience.
