Ugandan forward Frank Ssebufu is reportedly close to finalizing a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) Next Pro side Huntsville FC following his departure from New York Red Bulls II.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest the 23-year-old has received a two-year contract offer and discussions are progressing positively.
Ssebufu, who spent two seasons with New York Red Bulls II, was informed recently that his contract would not be renewed.
This development prompted the striker to explore opportunities with Huntsville FC, a club keen to secure his services.
According to a representative from Ssebufu’s agency, ASSK, the deal is expected to be concluded before the year ends.
Huntsville presented its offer after concrete discussions over the last week,” the representative revealed to Africafoot.
The player still has a chance to evaluate all the possibilities.
The ultimatum is that by the end of the year, he will have signed or not.
But it is positive in the current state of things.
Despite being released, Ssebufu’s performances in the 2024 season demonstrated his importance to the New York Red Bulls II squad.
Over 27 matches, he registered one goal and four assists.
His 2023 campaign was even more productive, with nine goals and five assists in 28 appearances.
Prior to his stint in the MLS Next Pro league, Ssebufu featured for Uganda’s Wakiso Giants in the Ugandan Premier League.
During his time there, he made 23 appearances, scoring eight goals and contributing three assists.
On the international stage, Ssebufu earned his first cap for the Ugandan national team last year and has since made four appearances.
Although he is yet to record a goal or assist for his country, his growing experience could play a key role in his future contributions.
Huntsville FC’s interest in the Ugandan marksman underscores their ambition to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the upcoming season.
If the move is finalized, Ssebufu will aim to replicate his domestic success and make a significant impact at his new club.
