Franco-Ivorian talent Yoram Zague sentenced to jail for driving offences
France-born Ivorian defender Yoram Zague has been sentenced to jail and handed a lengthy driving ban following a serious speeding offence in Denmark.
The young winger, who is currently on loan at Belgian side K.A.S. Eupen from Paris Saint-Germain, has been sentenced to 20 days in prison and banned from driving for three years after being caught driving at more than twice the legal speed limit on a Copenhagen highway.
According to reports, the incident occurred last summer while Zague was on loan at FC Copenhagen. The teenager was clocked at 65 miles per hour on a bridge where the maximum permitted speed was just 31 mph, a violation that Danish authorities treated as a serious offence.
Court proceedings revealed that Zague admitted guilt and did not contest the charges. His acceptance of responsibility was noted, but it did little to soften the legal consequences, with the court opting for a custodial sentence alongside the extended driving ban.
The ruling now requires Zague to return to Denmark to serve his jail term, a development that could seriously disrupt his footballing career and his current loan spell in Belgium. There is growing concern that the situation may jeopardise his progress at Eupen, where he had been gaining valuable first-team experience.
On the pitch, Zague has shown glimpses of promise this season, registering 2 goals and 1 assist in 8 appearances for Eupen. His pace and direct attacking style had begun to attract attention, but the off-field incident has now overshadowed his early development.
For PSG, the situation presents an unwelcome distraction involving one of their highly rated young prospects. The club will now have to assess how the legal ruling affects his loan arrangement and future pathway within their system.
While the legal process runs its course, the case serves as a stark reminder of how quickly off-field decisions can impact a rising career. For Zague, the coming months will not only be about football development, but also dealing with the consequences of a costly moment of recklessness
