French outfit OGC Nice have been dealt a significant setback as France international of Ivorian descent Elye Wahi is set to be sidelined for a longer period with a serious ankle injury.
The 23-year-old forward sustained a severe ankle sprain during Nice’s Ligue 1 encounter with Olympique Lyonnais. The incident occurred almost immediately after kick-off, with Wahi injuring himself inside the opening 10 seconds as he attempted to block a close-range effort. The awkward impact caused his ankle to twist badly, resulting in ligament damage.
Wahi only joined OGC Nice in January on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, seeking to reignite his career after a difficult spell in Germany where game time was limited. Prior to that, he had represented Montpellier HSC, RC Lens, and Olympique de Marseille, establishing himself as one of France’s most promising young attackers.
His move to the Allianz Riviera appeared to be paying off quickly. Wahi made an encouraging start to life on the Côte d’Azur, scoring three goals in his first five Ligue 1 appearances and showing signs of rediscovering his confidence and sharpness in front of goal.
That momentum has now been abruptly halted. Medical assessments have confirmed ligament involvement in the ankle sprain, ruling the striker out for an extended period. While the club has yet to provide a precise return date, reports suggest Wahi will be unavailable for several weeks, forcing Nice to reshuffle their attacking options as they navigate a crucial phase of the season.
For Wahi, it is a frustrating interruption just as his career revival was gathering pace, while Nice must now cope without one of their most in-form attacking outlets.
