Franco-Guinean star Paul Pogba to mark injury return after March international break

France international of Guinean descent Paul Pogba is edging closer to a return to action, with AS Monaco head coach Sébastien Pocognoli offering an encouraging update ahead of the club’s UEFA Champions League playoff second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

Quizzed about the 32-year-old midfielder’s fitness, Pocognoli revealed that Pogba’s recovery from a shinbone injury is progressing well and that a return to team training could be imminent.

“His comeback is becoming more and more evident,” Pocognoli said. “We hope he’ll be back before the break and will prepare with the team during the international window. He’s focused on the squad. His recovery plan is clearly defined.”

Pogba has been sidelined since early December 2025 after sustaining the shinbone injury, a setback that has ruled him out of 14 matches. The injury was another frustrating chapter in what has been a stop-start spell in the Principality.

The former French international joined Monaco in the summer of 2025 amid high expectations, but recurring fitness problems have severely limited his impact. So far, he has made just three appearances for the Monegasques, accumulating only 30 minutes of playing time.

Despite the limited involvement, Monaco remain committed to the experienced midfielder, whose contract runs until the summer of 2027.

With the business end of the season approaching, Monaco will be hoping Pogba can finally put his injury woes behind him and add experience, composure and creativity to the midfield. A successful return could provide a timely boost as the club battles on both domestic and European fronts.
